FAQ

Q: Is this device compatible with both Windows and Mac systems?

A: Yes, it is fully compatible. The ST1006A40 works seamlessly with Windows PCs, workstations, and macOS devices (such as MacBooks) equipped with Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4, or USB4 ports. It features plug-and-play functionality, easily integrating into mainstream productivity ecosystems.

Q: Do I need to install additional drivers to deploy this SSD enclosure?
A: No, it features a driver-free design. On supported Windows or macOS systems, no third-party drivers are required. The operating system will automatically recognize and configure the hardware, significantly reducing IT deployment and maintenance costs.

Q: Does the enclosure support hot-swapping?
A: Yes, hot-swapping is supported. However, to ensure absolute enterprise data security, we strongly recommend performing a "Safely Remove Hardware" operation within the operating system and turning off the independent power switch on the device before physically inserting or removing the NVMe SSDs.

Q: What is the maximum storage capacity supported, and are there restrictions on SSD models?
A: The device supports a maximum total capacity of 32TB. It provides four M.2 M-Key slots compatible with mainstream PCIe Gen4x4 NVMe SSDs, supporting up to 8TB per slot. It is fully compatible with 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280 length specifications. Please note that M.2 SSDs using the SATA protocol are not supported.

Q: Does the device require an external power supply? Can it charge my laptop?
A: Yes. To ensure stable operation when all four high-speed NVMe drives are fully loaded, the device must be connected to the included DC 20V/10A power adapter. Simultaneously, the TBT5 upstream port supports up to 140W PD charging, providing ample power to your laptop or mobile workstation via a single cable while transferring data.

Q: Which professional business scenarios is this expansion enclosure best suited for?
A: The ST1006A40 is specifically engineered for high-bandwidth, high-load professional environments. It is highly suitable for 8K multi-track real-time video editing, on-site massive footage backup by DITs (Digital Imaging Technicians), data staging in 3D modeling and rendering studios, and IT data center workstations requiring frequent processing of large-scale data sets.

PCBA

  80Gbps on a Single Board

Built around the latest Thunderbolt 5 controller, this PCBA carries 80Gbps bidirectional bandwidth — and up to 120Gbps in Bandwidth Boost mode — across a compact multi-layer board. Every high-speed differential pair is impedance-matched and length-tuned to keep TB5 signals clean from the host port to all four NVMe lanes.

Thunderbolt 5 Signal Integrity, Engineered from the Trace Up
Multi-layer PCB with controlled impedance — dedicated ground planes shield TB5, PCIe Gen4, and HDMI traces from cross-interference

PCIeGen4 x4 lanes per bay — four independent NVMe channels run concurrently without bus contention

Re-driver / re-timer placement optimized for short, symmetrical high-speed paths

EMI-compliant layout — pre-tested for FCC / CE radiated emission limits

For OEM/ODM partners: controller selection, bay count, and port configuration (TB5 / USB4 / HDMI / Ethernet) are fully customizable to match your end-product spec.

Built for Four Drives Running Flat Out

Running four NVMe SSDs simultaneously isn't a thermal or power problem we solve after the fact — it's designed into the board. Dedicated DC-DC stages supply clean, isolated rails to each M.2 slot, while large copper pours and component placement work together with the chassis heatsink to keep every drive within its sustained-performance envelope.

Power Delivery and Thermal Design for Sustained Multi-Bay Workloads

Independent power rails per bay — voltage isolation prevents one drive from disturbing another under load

High-current inductors and low-ESR caps sized for sustained 4-bay PCIe Gen4 operation

Thermal-aware layout — hot components placed for direct chassis contact and active airflow

Industrial-grade components sourced from qualified suppliers with full traceability

SMT process on our in-house line, with AOI inspection on every board

18 years of manufacturing experience. Every PCBA ships only after functional testing, aging testing, and final QC.
